Our Team is
Are you interested in working for a unique, early stage, fast growing startup? Would you like to have the opportunity to shape your own role from within a small team and see real impact from your work? Then we might have the perfect role for you!
Xavier is an innovative toolkit of intelligent data cleanup, bookkeeping and compliance tools designed for accounting professionals. Since launching in 2018, our user numbers have grown rapidly, and we are now looking for great new team members to grow with us.
We are a small team with a big mission: to help Xero accountants provide value and thrive in the age of automation, empowering all practices with control and confidence in their data.
As a startup, we love the ability to shape the kind of company we want to work in. These are the values we hold:
- Be Honest: With our team, our customers, and ourselves
- Be Humble: There's always more to learn, so be open to feedback, opportunities and ideas
- Be Welcoming: Innovation comes from a diverse team, listen and learn from others' experience
- Have Fun: No point doing it if you don't enjoy it!
Are you excited by coding, data and the awesome potential of AI? We're currently recruiting for a software engineer to join our development team full time.
A Day in the Life
The Xavier team are all based around Bristol, but we usually work from home on a normal day. Everyone gets together on Slack for a 'Daily Checkin' at 10am to share what their plans are for the day.
As part of the dev team, you'll be working from Jira, and using git feature branches. We also all keep an eye on Intercom for any major bugs or issues coming in from our users.
Generally during the day if we're all working from home, we'll have a few Zoom calls to chat about different projects, plan things or carry out releases (shirt and tie optional but clothing mandatory).
Once or twice a week the team will get together in Bristol, for meetings, tackling a big issue, or if we just want some company. We'll meet at the Engine Shed or occasionally Framework; these sessions usually involve a lot of coffee.
As part of SETsquared, our team members get access to the workshops and training sessions made available at the Engine Shed, so there's always something to learn. If there's something you're excited by, we really encourage it. The team also attend meetups around Bristol, usually fintech, code or AI related.
As an early stage startup and a small team, we think that attitude is key. We would welcome someone who is driven, innovative and optimistic, and who shares our goal to see a real difference from their work, both personally and for the success of our customers and the businesses they advise.
As a founding team we are very busy so won’t always be available to provide prioritisation and guidance - someone who is understanding about the pace of startup life and with the ability to plan, execute and adapt is key. We’re looking for someone who is:
- Self-motivated (we prefer to spend our time growing the business rather than micro-managing)
- Positive and optimistic
- Keen to learn and progress
Our ideal candidate would have in-depth experience of back-end architecture or a computer science degree (or similar), and 1+ years commercial development experience to assist with the expansion of our core SaaS web-based platform.
Knowledge of, or a background in accounting would help you hit the ground running, as would experience of working in an early-stage tech startup.
Previous experience or an interest in machine learning and/or data analytics is a bonus, and you’ll have the chance to work directly with our CTO on some exciting AI projects as part of our project funded by Innovate UK.
As one of the first Xavier employees, we expect this varied software engineer role to involve a large range of technologies across our stack. You don't need to know all of them, as long as you're willing and able to learn. Familiarity with the following is desirable:
- PHP (Laravel Framework)
- MongoDB and MySQL
- AWS platform technologies
- Job type: Full Time
- Salary: £25-35k per annum, depending on experience, plus Share Options
- Location: UK-based remote, with preference to the Bristol area. We are part of the SETSquared startup incubator located at the Engine Shed and hold team meetups there regularly
- Flexible working hours and holidays
- Ability to shape the role as we grow
- Ability to add custom emojis to our Slack
